Transition Year

Highlights

Transition Year has been a part of Ballincollig Community School for a number of years and each year it evolves in new and exciting ways.  It is designed to cater for the students’ personal and social development with particular emphasis on increasing maturity, developing self-confidence and encouraging personal growth.

Transition Year acts as a strong bridge between Junior and Senior Cycle studies and has proved invaluable to students in identifying and developing their strengths and skills as young adults.  While it lays a very solid foundation for Leaving Certificate, it also places greater emphasis on a self-directed approach to work and study; provides an exposure to and experience of the world of work; and helps students to take responsibility for their own learning and decision-making.

Transition Year gives students a more rounded education and an additional edge in the Leaving Certificate. Our desire is that students at the end of Transition Year would have grown in greater maturity and confidence and have developed a greater appreciation of themselves, others and the world in which they live.
