On the 13th of February, thirteen 5th year students participated in the HOPE School Immersion Programme. Students, accompanied by Ms. Coholan & Ms. Hooley travelled to Kolkata for one week for a cultural and educational tour of Kolkata and the HOPE projects.
Students worked tirelessly throughout the year to fund-raise for the Hope Foundation and must be commended for achieving their fundraising targets. Funds raised were donated to HOPE Projects and while in Kolkata, our students witnessed first-hand how their local fundraising efforts are helping to improve the lives of hundreds of children and family’s impacted by the extreme levels of poverty in Kolkata.
During this week-long programme students spent time visiting HOPE projects including Hope Crèches, Special Needs Education Home, Nabo Asha Centres, Life Skills Institute, The Hope Hospital and numerous Hope Protection Homes which provide a safe & secure protective homes for vulnerable children. While visiting these projects our students were afforded the opportunity to get to know the children and adolescents supported by Hope initiatives and felt extremely privileged to be so warmly welcomed in each home, school and crèche they visited.
While in India students were introduced to the realities of poverty, experienced a different culture, gained new perspectives, met inspirational people and experienced the wonderful affection the Indian people have to share.
