Michaela Casey and Gregor Stasko were the very fortunate participants in the UCC Prep for Med Day on Friday 31st of January. In the morning, students visited UCC’s state-of-the-art FLAME Anatomy Laboratory and learned Clinical Skills, such as CPR, first-hand from UCC’s lecturers and medical students. In the afternoon they visited CUH during which time they received talks from various Consultants and Surgeons, one being State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster. However, the highlight of the day for both students was to observe a baby girl being born by cesarean section! This was a fantastic opportunity for Transition Year students to experience what life as a medical student is really like, well done to the students involved and a huge thanks to the School of Medicine at UCC for hosting such an incredible event.
As per direction from the Department of Education and Skills, Ballincollig Community School is closed as and from 6pm on Thursday, 12th March until the 29th March 2020.
This means that there will be no access to the school building from the time of the shutdown.
The Microsoft 365 platform will be used by teachers to liaise with pupils. If any students have any difficulty with their Microsoft 365 accounts, including email, please email email@example.com, using a different account, and we will respond.
All students and those doing state examinations in 2020 will have the full support of the school during this time. Students should work through the normal school day and use this valuable time as they would in the classroom. Teachers will continue to work with 3rd, 5th and 6th year students throughout the two weeks.
We wish all our families well – stay safe and stay well.
