Ballincollig Community School first opened on September 14th, 1976 with 109 pupils. In the intervening years over 4,000 pupils have attended here. During this time the school has developed a proud academic and sporting tradition and on the 26th September 2003, Minister for Health and Children, Mr. Michael Martin, TD, opened a new school building with superb new facilities for present and future generations of pupils.

School Opening

Ballincollig Community School has grown with the community. In the early 1970s, Ballincollig was declared a satellite town of Cork and the process of transformation from a small village of less than 1000 people to its present population of 18,000 began. The first school building was innovative in design but, being constructed mainly from fibreglass, had a limited life span and in 2000 a new schoolbuilding was approved to replace it. The Astro-turf pitch - financed by a community draw plus help from partners Belvedere Hockey Club and the Dept. of Sport - was retained and incorporated into the new design. This new building is designed to cater for projected increase in population which will follow the completion of the by-pass and the development of the former Murphy Barracks land directly adjacent to the new building.

The mission statement outlines the school aims

  • To enable pupils to develop their full potential - intellectually, spiritually, artistically and socially.
  • To foster in pupils a sense of respect for themselves and others and a sense of civic pride.
  • To provide the educational base from which pupils can proceed to earn a living in the future.
